about
This song comes from a play, also called 'This Must Be The Place', that I was lucky enough to be involved in earlier in 2014. We performed it at Constellations, Greenland Street, Liverpool on October 17 2014; it was the culmination of five months' working together, and I tried to reflect that sense of an ending in the song. I hope it worked; I feel very fondly about it, hence why I'm releasing it on its own like this.
lyrics
This must be the place where it all comes together,
This must be the place where we reach the end of the road,
Our stars spin constellations of our journeys through this space,
In the shade of grandeur and of grace,
Darling, this must be the place.
Here we stand, in the blue and gold of dawning day,
Looking west, the direction that they flew away,
And we can see, as we stand bereft and blown,
Two shadows on the skyline, coming home.
This must be the place where it all comes together,
This must be the place where we reach the end of the road,
Our stars spin constellations of our journeys through this space,
In the shade of grandeur and of grace,
Darling, this must be the place.
It's been so cold for so long, my darling, treasure me,
We've found a place where we belong on our side of the sea,
So let's take wing and soar into the sky,
With the cormorants and eagles we will fly!
This must be the place where it all comes together,
This must be the place where we reach the end of the road,
Our stars spin constellations of our journeys through this space,
In the shade of grandeur and of grace,
Darling, this must be the place.
So we look up to an eyrie built of steel and stone,
Crowned with twin towers, where once two birds dwelt, both alone,
Now they've returned, a family of three,
Keeping watch over the city, sky and sea.
Under a cloud,
But there's sunshine at the edge of it,
And all around us, bright horizons.
This must be the place where it all comes together,
This must be the place where we reach the end of the road,
Our stars spin constellations of our journey through this space,
In the shade of grandeur and of grace,
Darling, this must be the place.
